Overview
Our Adoption Associates are essential members of the HSSV team who directly support our life-saving mission! We are looking for someone who is positive, community oriented, fun loving and motivated to provide an incredible first impression as customers visit HSSV. The right candidate for this role will have a consistent and genuinely positive attitude and is passionate about helping pets find loving homes. You thrive in a fast-past, team-oriented work environment where there is always something to do and have an extreme eye for detail and are able to accurately complete processes. No two adopters are alike, you treat everyone with respect and cater each adoption experience to the individual.

Duties and Responsibilities
Act as the first point of contact customers have when they walk in the HSSV door ensuring a pleasant and informative welcome as customers are directed to next steps.
Maintain customer list in Salesforce for check in, updates, and Adoption Associate assignments.
Support the flow of the day for Adoptions and ensure customer questions, specifically those waiting for appointments, are addressed.
Train on other areas of Adoptions in order to assist as needed with all parts of the process.
Provide spur of the moment solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Provide exceptional service to ensure that HSSV is “The Best Place to Adopt a Pet by working with visitors in determining animals that meet their interests, needs and living environment.
Mentor and train volunteers to ensure HSSV policies and procedures are followed specifically partner with volunteers on high volume days which are weekends.
Answer phone calls and emails promptly and courteously providing accurate information.
Solicit donations from visitors to meet or exceed fundraising goals.
Act pleasant, courteous, tactful and professional with visitors at all times; promote a positive public image and ensure all areas are kept clean/safe and maintained daily.
Be knowledgeable about HSSV policies and programs in order to direct visitors to the right place.
Other job duties may be assigned as needed.
Requirements
Experience in a customer service environment required; animal related experience a plus. Experience as a host in a dining or similar establishment a plus.
Comfortable interacting with, and safely handling dogs and cats.
Must be detail-oriented, reliable, punctual and work well in a team environment.
Ability to be flexible and understanding that each situation, customer, animal is unique; must be able to de-escalate situations quickly and effectively.
Positive, empathetic attitude with a passion for working with animals and people and must have good judgment skills.
Must have ability to follow directions as well as work independently with minimal supervision – need to be able to successfully problem solve on the spot.
Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) and demonstrate an attitude of consideration and courtesy to all members of the public, volunteers, and employees.
Proficient with computers and use of MS Word and Excel; database experience a plus.
Ability to handle animals safely and humanely and frequently lift and carry animals weighing up to 40lbs. Walk on paved or unpaved surfaces, which may be wet or dry. Lead and control large animals and ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time up to 45 minutes.
Work Days and Hours
This role is 20 hours a week consisting of Saturday and Sunday each weekend which are the busiest adoption times as well as a few hours on another day as needed.
