Job Description

The Hutchinson Animal Shelter provides shelter services for the City of Hutchinson. The Front Desk Associate performs general office work in support of the Animal Services operations and will be the primary contact during open business hours. This position is critical in establishing positive relationships with the general public and delivering exceptional customer service by closely interacting with customers over the phone and through visitor reception. The Front Desk Associate must be able to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment completing duties such as message routing, documentation and retention, data entry, daily financials, and maintaining reception order and cleanliness. Additionally, the incumbent must be detail-oriented, display strong computer skills, and possess an excellent work ethic. The Front Desk Associate will demonstrate a friendly and professional manner while interacting with community members, co-workers, and volunteers on a daily basis.



This is a part-time position expected to work 18 hours per week. The work schedule for this position will be 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM three days per week, depending on applicant preference and availability. Only those benefits required by law will be provided.

Environmental Conditions & Physical Demands
Work is primarily performed in an office environment with varying noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and potential exposure to animal diseases, fluids, and odors. Work will be performed around animals with exposure to animal fur, dander, and waste. The incumbent may at times interact with upset or irate customers.

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.



Standing and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Position will occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information and employee must possess the ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials, objects, and occasionally animals weighing up to 30 pounds.
