This is a full time 40 hour a week position with occasional weekend events required.

THE POSITION:

The MSPCA is offering a unique opportunity for an experienced community organizer, non-profit program development and/or animal welfare applicant to join our organization as a Community Outreach Manager. The primary responsibilities of the Community Outreach Manager are establishing and expanding the reach of animal care services, resources and information in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Manager will work to connect pet owners to affordable services, such as veterinary care, pet food, and supplies.  Collaboration is the key to success in this position.  Building relationships within the Springfield community with other animal organizations, community groups and community leaders is a vital part of this position.

Additional responsibilities include: 

Work with the Director of Community Outreach to develop, establish and implement directives for community initiatives.
Lead and collaborate with staff and volunteers at Dakin Humane Society and Thomas J O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center on how to conduct community outreach and engage the Springfield community for long term, sustainable positive change.
Build relationships within the Springfield community with other animal organizations, social service organizations, community groups and community leaders.
Plan, organize and implement community vaccine clinics and other events in identified historically excluded communities.
Work to meet surgical and medical needs of animals in Springfield efficiently.
Work to develop volunteer positions and grow volunteer base for community outreach in Springfield with a focus on recruiting volunteers within Springfield.
Work with the MSPCA Law Enforcement Department, Dakin Humane Society, and Thomas J.O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center on calls from Springfield that can be addressed through a community outreach approach of providing resources to owners in need.
Conduct community research to ensure directives are in line with community needs.
Develop and implement community presentations and other educational opportunities.
Serve as spokesperson for Community Outreach; manage and coordinate media appearances related to Community Outreach.
Work cohesively with MSPCA development team to identify and write grants to secure funding and engage interested donors in direct donations.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS: 

If you are a self-motivated, compassionate, positive, and organized individual with excellent interpersonal communication skills, this may be the career opportunity you’ve been looking for. Applicants must have at least 2 years of animal handling experience, 1 year of experience as a supervisor, and 1 year of customer service, non-profit, or social work experience.  Applicants should also have a valid driver's license. Applicants proficient in Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply as there is a large Spanish speaking population in Springfield.
