Job Description

The Development Coordinator assists in fulfilling the mission of Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley by helping to find safe and loving homes for abused, abandoned, and homeless animals of the Allegheny-Kiski valley and educating the public about responsible pet ownership. The incumbent will oversee the development and maintenance of fund development campaigns to promote the long-term financial stability of the organization. The primary duties involve direct cultivation, solicitation, and custodial oversight to financial relationships with individuals, corporate partners, and foundations. The Development Coordinator is in direct contact with the public, volunteers, and other shelter staff and thus a positive, friendly attitude and the ability to work with others are essential components of this role. The Development Coordinator must also embrace the programs and mission of Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley.

Essential Functions:
• Promote the immediate and future viability of the organization through the development of funds
• Work in tandem with Development and Communications committees to promote, plan, and execute fundraising events and campaigns
• Identify potential supporters, and pursue and maintain relationships
• Investigate and explore creative approaches to developing funds
• Assist in recording revenues and expenditures as relevant to the development of funds
• Provide regular reports and updates regarding fundraising activities, and suggest potential avenues for future development to the Shelter Manager and relevant committees
• Cooperate and collaborate with staff and volunteers in pursuit of Animal Protectors’ mission
• Attend required trainings to remain current on policy and protocol changes
• Engage with clients through various media including phone, email, and in-person communication
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience:
• Must have 1-2 years’ experience in fundraising or project development; 1-2 years’ experience with non-profits preferred
• Must be comfortable handling dogs and cats of varying breed, size, age, condition, and temperament
• Must be comfortable utilizing QuickBooks and DonorSnap software and other programs as needed
• Must be able to assist in financial recordkeeping
• Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and see them through to completion
• Must adhere to Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley policies and protocols regarding animal handling, customer service, and money handling
• Must have the ability to cope with emotionally demanding work
• Must be willing to work cooperatively with the staff and volunteers
• Must have Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or experience commensurate to education preferred
• The physical demands for the job are as follows: Medium Work- Medium work is defined as lifting 50lbs maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 35lbs
• Must have valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, and access to reliable transportation to and from the shelter and off-site events
• Must have ability to work flexible schedule, including some evenings and holidays. All Animal Protectors employees are expected to be available at least one weekend day per week
• Must be legally permitted to work in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
• Must have a sincere interest in the mission, culture, and future of Animal Protectors
