Lead a team working at the intersection of veterinary medicine and social change!

The San Francisco SPCA believes that every pet guardian deserves access to quality veterinary care, regardless of income. One of the key members of the team leading that charge is our Director of Community Medicine! This veterinarian will have the best of both worlds practicing veterinary medicine (70%) and overseeing the administrative functions (30%) of a department dedicated to the care of client-owned animals at the Mission location, our free mobile vaccine clinics, and our HQHVSN clinic. They will also launch our low-cost community veterinary clinic in the near future!


-DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary school in general practice
-Active, non-restricted CA state veterinary license or ability to obtain one
-Valid driver's license
-A skilled surgeon with 5+ years of experience in client-facing clinical practice
-3+ years of P&L experience; revenue generation, budgeting, payroll
-5+ years of experience in a leadership and/or mentorship role; including mentoring veterinarians, team development
-Able to perform high-volume wellness & prevention appointments and assessments for client-owned animals
-Able to perform advanced soft tissue surgeries

The ideal Director is:
-Bilingual- Spanish
-Driven to improve community access to affordable veterinary care
-Passionate about providing care to client-owned animals in a non-judgmental manner, with an emphasis on incremental care
-Able to complete high volume (25-35) spay/neuters with 2 doctors
-Skilled at building high-performing, collaborative teams
-Skilled at leveraging financial services to enable value-based pricing (balancing quality care and client finances)
-Driven by social justice and guided by the philosophy that a deep connection with pets transcends socio-economic, racial, and geographic boundaries
-Ready to guide the vision, strategy, medical practice, and protocols of the SF SPCA’s Community Medicine program
-Excellent communicator who can positively and effectively present ideas and concepts.
-Big picture thinker that can take in information from all available sources, paired with medical expertise, and assess operations objectively.

Must be able to effectively multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced high workload environment of constantly changing priorities


Fantastic daytime hours! Community Medicine department hours are currently Tues-Sat 7:30am-6:30pm
