The Director of Shelter Programs will report to the Chief Operations Officer. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $50,000-$55,000 annually.
It is essential that the director:
Provides leadership and direction for the efficient and smooth operation of shelter operations including behavior and training, customer care, animal care and relocation departments. Directs the proper utilization of inventory, purchasing and cash handling. Manages organization of animal inventory and makes policy decisions regarding animal placement. Ensures quality animal care and shelter cleanliness, with a strong focus on excellent customer service. Ensures quality programming that is in accordance with organization’s mission, goals, management and resources. Responsible for managing budgets, supervising staff, and writing policies and procedures.
Responsible for the hiring, supervising, coaching and training of animal care technicians, behavior and training specialists, customer care and relocation departments by providing regular, on-going feedback and timely evaluations.
Monitors safety compliance for staff and volunteers. Addresses employee problems and grievances.
Maintains shelter records and statistics that include but are not limited to: animal population, adoption, euthanasia, and relocation.
Oversees the ordering and inventory of shelter supplies and equipment and assures that appropriate quantities of all supplies are on a hand at all times. Regularly researches new products, equipment and pricing.
In partnership with the staff veterinarian and department supervisors, enforces all policies and protocols to protect the health and well-being of the animal in our care.
Leads staff discussions regarding placement decisions, behavior plans, and other animal-related concerns.
Provides suggestions and participates in discussions surrounding euthanasia and animal outcomes.
Conducts meetings with staff to review procedures, discuss workplace issues and share ideas to improve animal care, the customer service experience and the organization in general.
Works with other departments to develop, improve, and maintain programs within the shelter that are up-to-date with current behavior recommendations.
Treats all animals humanely, properly, and with compassion at all times, regardless of the situation or circumstance and promote a humane and caring attitude toward all animals.
