Join Our Shelter Medical Team and Make a Difference!Santa Fe Animal Shelter (SFAS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Medical Director to oversee our medical program and lead a dynamic team committed to the health and well-being of sheltered animals. Key Responsibilities:
Medical Leadership: Develop and manage protocols for animal health, conduct medical rounds and examinations, perform surgeries, and oversee treatments. Provide emergency care as needed and ensure compliance with state regulations.
People Leadership: Lead and mentor veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and assistants. Participate in strategic planning and represent SFAS in public settings when required.
Financial Oversight: Develop and manage the clinic's budget, review financial performance, and collaborate with the CEO to adjust forecasts.
Interdepartmental Coordination: Act as a liaison between the shelter clinic, other SFAS departments, and the public to ensure effective communication and positive animal outcomes.
Qualifications:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an accredited university.
Valid license to practice in New Mexico and eligibility to be a DEA license holder for the clinic.
Minimum 3 years of experience in shelter medicine.
Proven ability to lead and develop a professional veterinary team.
Strong computer proficiency and experience in budget management.
Physical ability to manage the demands of a shelter environment, including lifting up to 50 pounds and exposure to animals and potential zoonotic diseases.
