Supervises veterinary team.
Completes veterinary specific tasks and duties.

Position Overview:
The Staff Veterinarian is a licensed specialist responsible for working with the Clinical Team to implement protocols that improve animal health and prevent illness transmission. This role requires an accredited veterinary medical program degree, a WY Veterinary License, and a Wyoming Pharmacy Board License. DEA licensure is needed within 6 months of employment.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
General Veterinary Care
● The staff veterinarian will examine each dog or cat that is placed for adoption that has not had a vet exam in the last 6 months.
● The staff veterinarian will ensure all dogs and cats over the age of 3 months are appropriately rabies vaccinated.
● The staff veterinarian will ensure all dogs and cats of appropriate age and health status are altered prior to adoption or within 60 days of adoption.
● Participate in public Vaccine Clinics, Spay Day events, and other shelter associated events as requested.
Triage Medical Cases
● The Staff veterinarian will triage and develop diagnostic/ treatment plans for pets with medical and/or behavioral concerns that fall under Shelter care.
● The Staff veterinarian will ensure all exam findings, diagnostics, and treatments are documented in the animal’s medical record
● The Staff veterinarian will be available for consultation on shelter related cases by phone or email within 24hrs of a request being made.
Euthanasia
● Be willing and able to determine when euthanasia is an appropriate pathway for pets under shelter care.
● Perform euthanasia on shelter pets safely and effectively according to CAS protocol and WY regulations
Animal Cruelty Investigations
● Provide detailed reports and professional guidance to Laramie County Animal Control Officers after a written request has been issued.

Required Education/Experience:
● Completion of an accredited veterinary medical program.
● Obtained WY veterinary licensure
● Obtain Wyoming Pharmacy Board Licensure
● Obtain Wyoming DEA Licensure (after 6 months of continuous employment at full time status)

Working Conditions:
Works in a high noise level area. Exposure to industrial cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, animal feces, bites and scratches. Physical efforts require constant bending, stooping, and lifting up to 75lbs with reasonable accommodations. Works on rotating assignments daily. Safety procedures must be adhered to at all times.
**All new employees are required to pass a drug screen and background check. There are random drug screens throughout employment.**
