The Santa Fe Animal Shelter is seeking a motivated, talented dog trainer comfortable with a positive reinforcement philosophy to join our training team. The training team supports our community with life-changing work in our training center. Experience is preferred but not necessary. The Ideal candidate will be certified (CPDT, KPA, or The Jean Donaldson Academy or equivalent), or working towards certification. We are enthusiastic about continuing education opportunities; candidates with a strong desire to develop their skills and the opportunities to train animals within the Santa Fe community are encouraged to apply. We would consider candidates without certification that have a solid foundational knowledge of training and a commitment to improve their skills and knowledge. Monitoring and responding to our behavior helpline (professional coaching provided to the public free of charge).
Documenting helpline requests and phone consultations.
Assisting in group classes (basics to advanced).
Leading group classes, once certified and qualified.
Assisting and eventually leading private lessons.
participate in the development of curriculum for new classes to offer the Santa Fe community
developing, implementing, and overseeing a new prison dog training program; where shelter dogs are paired with inmates while completing the Canine Good Citizen Certificate prior to adoption.
