Job Description

The Anti-Cruelty Society is accepting applications for a full-time Veterinary Assistant in our Clinic. Under the supervision of Clinic management, the Veterinary Assistant is responsible for maintaining healthy, sanitary, safe and comfortable conditions for animals in the clinic and rehabilitation centers; learning the requirements for responsible animal care.

Initial training will include:

Feeding, cleaning, providing oral medications
Animal restraint
Subcutaneous injections and fluids
Recording observations and treatments on medical charts
Assisting veterinarians as they conduct physical exams
Cleaning/sterilizing surgical instruments, gowns, drapes
Second tier training will include:

Performing post-surgical recovery
On site testing for Feline Leukemia, Heartworm, Parvo Virus
Microscope reading of fecal samples, skin scrapes
Prepping animals for surgery; animal restraint, shaving/preparing surgical site
Anesthesia machine, monitoring equipment training
Digital radiology
Advanced training includes:

Surgical log usage
Intravenous injections
Anesthesia drugs and dosages

High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of one year of experience working in this field or related field preferred.

Note: A comparable combination of education, experience or training that would provide the level of knowledge, skills and ability required may qualify an individual.
