Essential Job Functions:
• Assists surgeon(s) with preoperative examination.
• Assists with surgical duties, including prepping, shaving, monitoring anesthesia, and monitoring recovery in a high volume, fast paced environment.
• Utilizes the following technical skills routinely:
o IV catheter placement and setting up IV fluids
o Performs digital radiographs
o Phlebotomy
o Infectious disease testing
o Cystocentesis
o Laboratory work (CBC, urinalysis, cytology, etc.)
o Intubation of dogs and cats
o Surgical prep (spay, neuter, amputation, enucleation, mass removal, etc.)
o Dental prophylaxis
o Dental radiographs
o Vaccinating
o Microchipping
o Medicating
• Completes medicated baths and/or grooms.
• Provides safe and adequate restraint.
• Enters exam and treatment notes into shelter software.
• Ensures that supplies are available and in adequate supply.
• Receives supplies and distributes them to designated areas.
• Feeds and waters animals, and supplies basic animal husbandry for animals housed in the clinic.
• Helps prevent spread of disease by using proper cleaning protocols.
• Washes and dries laundry.
• Cleans the clinic thoroughly daily.
• Performs routine maintenance on medical equipment.
• Completes medical and surgical discharges by providing detailed post-operative care instructions.
• Answers clinic phone and/or checks voicemail messages and makes follow-up calls when required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
• Must be a Licensed Veterinary Technician in Nevada or have the ability to obtain a Nevada License within 30 days.
Experience:
• 1 year of prior experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal shelter preferred.
Licenses:
• State of Nevada Veterinary Technician License.
• Valid CA or NV Driver’s license and ability to pass Nevada Humane Society Motor Vehicle Report criteria. Current auto insurance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Safe, effective, fear-free animal handling skills and knowledge of animal behavior.
• Knowledge of dog breeds and their characteristics, and familiarity with symptoms of common diseases.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and ability to learn new computer programs.
• Knowledge of preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic veterinary treatment.
• Good interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
• Maturity, good judgment and a professional personal appearance.
• Able to work in the busy, demanding environment of a shelter clinic.
• Ability to identify problems or conditions (medical and behavioral) that need to be brought to the attention of the veterinarian.
• Treat people and animals with respect; contribute to effective teamwork; and, foster public relations.
• Experience volunteering or working with a rescue group, humane society, foster care involvement or other animal welfare agency are a plus.
• Comfort and ability to work with animals of unknown disposition.
Pay Range:
• $20-$27
• $2,500 Sign-on Bonus
