Animal Crimes Manager, The Humane Society of the United States
Shalimar Hightower is the Animal Crimes Manager for the Humane Society of the United States, based out of Washington, DC. where she oversees all puppy mill investigations as well as other egregious cruelty cases including hoarding and illegal animal fighting. Shalimar is a trainer for the Law Enforcement Training Center and teaches numerous law enforcement officials and agencies around the country and is a member of the Association of Professional Humane Educators. Shalimar is also a disaster responder and assists with rescues where animals have been impacted by hurricanes, floods and other natural events. As a senior Animal Control Officer for the County of San Diego she was also a disaster responder, FTO and academy trainer, and also worked for the San Diego Humane Society. Prior to this, Shalimar was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, where she worked at the Sydney RSPCA and an Australian wildlife park.
