This is a full time 40 hour a week exempt position.   

THE POSITION:

We have a new and unique opportunity for a Licensed Social Worker to provide support for the emotional and mental wellbeing of the staff within the Animal Protection Division at the MSPCA-Angell. This includes staff within the adoption center, community veterinary clinic, law enforcement and advocacy departments. The Social Worker for Animal Protection will work to bring awareness of the importance of mental health, help build the tools needed for staff to navigate the emotional challenges associated with working in animal welfare, and connect staff to mental health services as appropriate.  The Animal Protection Social Worker will secondarily help with client needs for the MSPCA-Angell Outreach and Law Enforcement teams to aid clients struggling with their mental wellbeing and assist in connecting clients to mental health services. Some job responsibilities include: 

Supporting employee wellness through individual and group opportunities to discuss personal wellness, managing compassion fatigue, difficult euthanasia decisions, conflict management, and difficult client interactions.
Designing and facilitating education and trainings for new and existing employees on the impact of trauma exposed work, recognizing and addressing their social and emotional needs, compassion fatigue, self-care, coping skills, building resiliency, grief and loss, trauma informed care, and effective communication.
Directing staff to available resources that meet their individual needs, such as, the MSPCA-Angell’s Employee Assistance Program, community resources and referrals to mental health professionals.
Working closely with mental health providers across Massachusetts to connect staff to needed resources and support.


 

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

If you are currently a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field, and at least 3 years of field experience working in a veterinary or human hospital, animal welfare, or social services setting, this may be the  rewarding career opportunity you’ve been looking for.  Given the uniqueness of this role, we are seeking applicants who also have at least 1 year of experience volunteering or working in animal welfare.
