The SPCA of Westchester is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to providing care, saving the lives of and finding loving homes for animals in need. It is our mission to save homeless, abused and abandoned animals. We are committed to educating the community and inspiring respect and compassion towards animals and enforcing humane laws.

We are currently seeking an experienced Behavior and Training Coordinator to join our team and support our mission. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal welfare and proven experience with positive behavior training programs that ensure successful adoptions.  This position is full time 40 hours, 5-day work week.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and implement training/enrichment/behavioral modification plans, as appropriate, and in alignment with SPCA Westchester philosophies and provide ongoing evaluation of progress. 
Provide exceptional levels of care and handling, creating an enriching environment for rescue center animals. 
Assist with behavioral assessments for new intake animals. 
Coordinate the daily playgroup program.
Guide, train and provide ongoing support for animal staff and volunteers that are participating in behavior and enrichment programs with the animals using established training and enrichment protocols. 
Provide pre-adoption behavior counseling to potential adopters of animals with behavior concerns.
Introduce animal care staff and senior volunteers to behavior animals. 
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum 2+ years of experience as a professional dog trainer.

Working knowledge of dog/cat handling and behavior, including pets with challenging temperaments and with severe health conditions.
Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Self-motivated, positive attitude and team oriented. 
CPDT certification or other accredited dog training certification.
Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office.
Ability to lift weights up to 50-75lbs and work in various conditions.
