Do you like working with kids and meeting new people? Do you enjoy teaching others about the joys of pet guardianship? If so, this role may be the perfect fit for you. The Community Engagement Coordinator of the Roanoke Valley SPCA coordinates all aspects of the humane education programs and community outreach programs such as our Visiting Pets program and ‘Dine to Donate’ events. They are also the first and primary point of contact for our awesome volunteers! You will use your customer service skills and understanding of the Roanoke Valley SPCA’s mission and programs to provide high quality humane education presentations and community engagement activities, including speaking professionally to individuals, small groups, and large groups of all ages and backgrounds. Activities include educational presentations at local schools, hosting children’s Birthday Parties at the Roanoke Valley SPCA, taking adoptable pets to events, running booths or activities at local events such as BARKtoberfest, Children’s Safety Day, etc. and more.

Job Title: Community Engagement Coordinator

Job Type: Non-Exempt, Full-Time, Benefits Eligible

Salary: $15.00 per hour starting salary

Duties include: The Community Engagement Coordinator oversees the execution of the organization’s community engagement strategy and operational functions; including community outreach, volunteers, and humane education. The coordinator also provides support for various marketing and communications functions, including but not limited to social media, website, and speaking opportunities.

Requirements: Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree or have related experience. Must have outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, be able to learn and adapt to evolving priorities and technologies with minimal guidance, and have advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Publisher, Powerpoint, and Excel. Successful candidates must maintain a valid driver’s license and the ability to lift 40 pounds, have a minimum of 3 years’ work experience in programs and/or events, and will be detail oriented, adaptable, organized and able to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks. Fear Free Certification is preferred but not required.

Schedule: Varies, some evenings and weekends are required.

Work location: Roanoke Valley SPCA and various locations around town as needed.
