Job Description

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a Full-Time Director of Animal Services to oversee and lead our Animal Services division. This position requires a strong leader who can guide the Animal Services team and Rescue and Response team while collaborating with our extensive community outreach program and volunteers. The Director will ensure that the ARL provides the highest level of professionalism and service to the community’s animals and residents. Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on expertise and organizational needs. Note that the ARL works with all animal species as needed.

This position is part of the staff leadership team, consisting of eight Directors, and will work closely with and support the CEO, ARL Operations, and other Directors in a collaborative team environment. This position is located in Des Moines; and requires the person to be in the office the core days/hours of Monday-Friday due to the nature of the work (although some flexibility would be afforded of course). Some evening and weekend work may be necessary at times.

Key Responsibilities:
•Provide leadership and direction to the Animal Services and Rescue and Response teams.
•Collaborate with the community outreach program and volunteers to enhance fieldwork and other initiatives.
•Ensure a high level of service and professionalism in interactions with the community and its animals.
•Build and maintain relationships both inside and outside the ARL
•Represent the ARL through public speaking engagements, media appearances and presentations to government agencies as needed.

Qualifications:
•5+ years of experience in animal control or equivalent in a non-profit organization and/or municipal facility.
•Proven leadership skills with a track record of building strong teams and maintaining high morale.
•A teamwork-oriented attitude with a proactive approach to challenges, efficiency, and innovation.
•Customer service-oriented with flexibility and a positive attitude.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Required Special Qualifications
•Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record; daily driving may e required in a company or city vehicle.
•Candidates for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check.
