Director of Development
Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary (OFSDS) provides lifetime care for senior dogs in Tennessee. We are fully funded by donations and are seeking a Development Director with at least five years of experience with a successful background in prospecting, cultivating, and managing new donors and funding sources.
The Development Director will be a part of the executive team at OFSDS and will report to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
The position is on-site at Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary in Mount Juliet, TN. We currently house approximately 120 dogs at the sanctuary and have another 400 in Forever Foster homes in the Middle Tennessee Area.
Salary depends on experience. OFSDS offers a competitive salary, vacation and personal time off, a 401K with matching funds and health, vision, and dental insurance.
Responsibilities:
• Create, coordinate, and implement annual giving strategies.
• Work to prepare and coordinate distribution of mailing materials such as annual reports and donation appeals.
• Cultivate and steward relationships with current and prospective corporate and individual donors.
• Write, assemble, and submit corporate funding requests, including letters of intent, solicitation letters, proposals, budgets, acknowledgements, and presentations.
• Meet with prospective major gift donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communication and ongoing relationships with them.
• Develop rapport with vendors/ donors/ sponsors through one-on-one interactions, exploring specific needs and anticipating new opportunities.
• Collaborate with key staff to conduct tours for mid and high level donors.
• Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing and reporting.
• Maintain gift recognition programs.
• Always demonstrate professional conduct.
• Perform other duties related to fundraising as requested.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Five or more years of directly relevant experience.
• Proven track record of achieving revenue targets.
• Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate and manage new donors and funding sources.
• Familiar with donor database programs. We are currently using the Neon CRM and Classy, but do not require specific experience with these programs.
• Must be a self-starter. Must have a positive attitude and high level of initiative.
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Requirements:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to communicate with peers, the general public and volunteers.
• Must be willing to work long hours, nights and weekends when required. At least 40 hours of work per week is expected.
• Must be willing to travel to meet with potential donors and sponsors, as required.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be flexible and able to manage change.
