Overview

The Director, Events plays a key role in HSSV’s mission impact by driving and executing best-in-class donor events and engagement programs of all sizes. This individual enables the organization to engage new and existing donors, exciting and inspiring donors, and strategically enabling donors to build affinity and loyalty to HSSV. In collaboration with the Development Team, this individual impacts the achievement of fundraising goals for HSSV by producing amazing experiences that bring donors closer to the mission and the mission’s champions and fellow supporters.


Duties and Responsibilities


Lead as a strategic thought partner and driver for HSSV’s events; partner collaboratively with the Development Team to plan and implement best-in-class events that leads to renewed, increased, and new philanthropic support for donors including individuals, foundations, corporations, and government entities. 

Drive event success with outcomes, budget, forecast, and ROI analysis/event metrics; formulate calendar of Development and community events strategically encompassing all donor types. 

Lead execution and bring to life the vision of the President, CDO, and SDoP for special events, such as HSSV’s annual high visibility gala The Fur Ball which specifically supports a revenue goal of securing $2M+ annually including the pipeline of future event leadership and honorees. 

Partner with CDO and SDoP to execute on The Fur Ball Host Committee meetings to ensure committee and volunteers participate in activities related to donor engagement and events. 

Design event themes, style, and overall direction in collaboration with Development leadership. 

Create, with HSSV brand alignment, impactful event correspondence including invitations, announcements, RSVP’s, menus, presentations, event follow-up, and all other printed materials ensuring appropriate lead times to execute on deadlines successfully. 

Partner with SDoP and gift officers to leverage their help with RSVPs and personalized outreach before and after events with donors assigned in portfolios. 

Collaborate with Marketing for event promotion, when applicable. 

Oversee and handle event logistics including set-up/take down, smooth running of events, event timelines, staffing plans and vendor relationships. 

Drive creative and innovative event experiences based on internal capabilities or qualified vendor; collaborate with internal teams across the organization for planning. 

Lead sponsorship fulfillment related to events in collaboration with the Development Team. 

Curate the attendance and participation of event hosts, board and committee members, and leadership staff for events. 

Leverage HSSV’s designated systems such as SalesForce and Pardot for information and communication purposes. 

Other job duties may be assigned as needed. 


Requirements


Strategic experience with relevant event management achieving successful engagement; nonprofit strongly preferred. 

Ability to operate at a strategic level with a demonstrated ability to leverage stakeholders to drive event optimization; demonstrated experience with events from concept and to execution. 

Passion for animal welfare and creating a better future for pets and their people. 

Ability to engage and inspire donors and help them see how their commitment makes an impact. 

Must have a level of professional judgment and decisiveness to inspire confidence among prospects and donors. 

Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills (with diverse range of internal and external audiences), including excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Strong project and time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment and work calmly under pressure with excellent listening and critical thinking skills and an attention to detail. 

Ability to work independently and collaboratively; performance-oriented individual who has demonstrated achievement of goals with a creative mindset. 

Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. 

Tech savvy and proficient with MS Office (specifically PowerPoint) and experience with CRM systems such as SalesForce and Pardot a plus. 

Ability to travel around the region and attend events on evenings and/or weekends. 

Work Days and Hours

Hours are typically Monday – Friday; occasional evening or weekend work may be required for Development events.
