Job Description

The Director, Stewardship plays a key role in HSSV’s mission impact by strategizing and executing best-in-class stewardship programs. This individual drives the organization to engage donors and strategically enable donors to increase their affinity, loyalty, and belonging at HSSV. Through the Director, Stewardship’s efforts, donors will deepen their relationship with HSSV and will be inspired to repeat and increase their giving, With a focus on designing, implementing, and driving stewardship programs, supporting strategy development and team-wide and collaborative activities, this individual enables donors of all giving types to be more engaged with the organization and its impact, and to further the relationship and passion of HSSV’s mission impact.


Duties and Responsibilities

Lead as a strategic thought partner and driver for HSSV’s stewardship programs and initiatives; partner collaboratively with the Development Team to plan and implement a best-in-class program that inspires current and potential donors.
Drive desired program outcomes, budget, forecast, and ROI analysis; lead adaptations to strategies as needed with a focus on donor engagement to ensure timely execution of member benefits and opportunities to all individual donors.
Leverage impact and donor stories to articulate and bring to life HSSV’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities in a way that inspires and engages donors both for cultivation and stewardship purposes.
Champion the Development Team’s incorporation of donor level language to develop donor’s sense of connection to their giving levels; ensure donor benefits and levels are compelling.
Oversee and ensure donor benefit fulfillment, in collaboration with the Development Team, focused on leading one to many stewardship activities, and supporting the team on one to one and bespoke engagements.
Manage meaningful targeted stewardship touch points for major donors and/or prospects including the creation and arrangement of high quality gifts, impact reports, newsletters, welcome packets, etc.
Implement and oversee the donor acknowledgement process starting with the acknowledgement for a gift through additional thanking efforts including the President, CDO, and Board of Directors.
Create and drive stewardship communications and collateral that meets goals and is HSSV brand aligned including donor benefits guide, donor benefits webpages, HSSV donor engagement stationary, tribute bricks, etc.
Collaborate with the Events team to ensure donors are being invited to events per giving level.
Manage HSSV’s donor lists and ensure changes and preferences are reflected in HSSV’s CRM including for annual report, donor wall, and news alert.
Generate annual and ongoing metrics and reporting for stewardship programs.
Leverage industry best practices and successfully strengthen relationship-building to lead donors to their highest and best possible gifts to support HSSV.
Support the execution benefits for sponsorship and contributions from corporations.
Maintain donor database with interactions, opportunities, plans, and outcomes to produce comprehensive understanding of stewardship activities.
May have 1:1 donor engagement as a frontline fundraiser, which will be determined over time.
Other job duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

Strategic and leadership experience with relevant fundraising achieving successful results in stewardship programs; nonprofit a strong plus.
Ability to operate at a strategic level with a demonstrated ability to leverage stakeholders to drive program optimization; demonstrated experience with programs from concept and strategy to execution and analysis.
Passion for animal welfare and creating a better future for pets and their people.
Must have a level of professional judgment and decisiveness to inspire confidence among prospects and donors.
Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills (with diverse range of internal and external audiences), including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong project and time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment and work calmly under pressure with excellent listening and critical thinking skills and an attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively; performance-oriented individual who has demonstrated achievement of goals with capabilities in data analysis.
Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Tech savvy and proficient with MS Office (specifically PowerPoint) and experience with CRM systems, donor
databases a plus.
Ability to travel around the region and attend events on evenings and/or weekends.


Work Days and Hours
Hours are typically Monday – Friday; occasional evening or weekend work may be required for Development events.
