Job Description

This is a full-time 40 hour a week position.

THE POSITION:

The mission of the MSPCA at Nevins Farm is to protect and care for abused, neglected, abandoned, and at-risk farm animals, which includes equine, fowl, goats, sheep, pigs and cattle. 

The Equine and Farm Animal Intake Coordinator is the primary point person for the transfer and intake of owner surrender or stray equine and farm animals at Nevins Farm.

The Intake Coordinator will evaluate the needs of individual owners and available resources at the Farm. The Intake Coordinator will provide meaningful guidance and assistance to individuals struggling to provide care for their horses or farm animals and advise on rehoming and other potential options for animals that cannot be taken in by Nevins Farm. The Coordinator will also assist with the daily operations of the farm, including animal care and adoption of equine and farm animals. 

Some of the duties include:




Coordinate timely responses to surrender inquiries, schedule intake and manage surrender conversations.
Coordinate capacity planning for incoming equine and farm animals and evaluate the urgency of intake.
Coordinate direct rehoming or additional resources to find the best option for an animal when direct intake is not possible.
Coordinate the medical care for equine and farm animals upon intake. Develop and maintain good working relationships with veterinarians, farriers, animal control officers and other professionals.
Work as part of an overall team at Nevins Farm on the intake, care and adoption of equine and farm animals.
Assist with the daily care of animals on the farm including but not limited to cleaning, feeding, administering medication, and monitoring progress of medical and behavior plans.
Assist with the evaluation of horses and farm animals for adoptability, placement or euthanasia. Play a lead role in discussions and decisions regarding euthanasia. Be able to effectively communicate euthanasia decisions to volunteers.
Provide and serve as a role model for the animal care staff and volunteers and ensure that a positive approach is prevalent in public interactions.
Work with the Equine and Farm Outreach and Rescue Manager and the Law Enforcement team on the collection, transport and intake of farm animal cases.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of 2 years management of a population of horses in a barn.
Minimum of 5 years of equine/farm animal experience required.
Advanced knowledge of equine and farm animal husbandry and welfare.
