WENATCHEE VALLEY HUMANE SOCIETY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION

WVHS is a private, 501(c)(3), non-profit organization serving as a resource center for the
greater Wenatchee Valley through education, protection and pet adoptions, with a vision of
creating a compassionate community for pets and the people who love them.
Reporting to the board of directors, the Executive Director is a compassionate leader whose
decision making and relationship skills reflect a commitment to the mission of WVHS.
The Executive Director is responsible for the organization’s direction, operations, finance,
fundraising, personnel and management of each department including Administration, the
Shelter, Veterinary Clinic, and Animal Care & Control.
Leadership and Direction:
1. Provide leadership and development opportunities to a committed team of 35 +/- staff
2. Practice and promote good board governance
3. Develops 3-5 year strategic plan with department managers and the board of directors
4. Executes strategic plan by supporting staff to meet goals and objectives
5. Promotes a culture of respect and accountability
6. Demonstrates professionalism, effective and efficient communications and positive
management practices
7. Monitor, evaluate, recommend and promote programs and services that meet the mission of
the organization
Management:
1. Hires, retains, rewards and supervises administrative personnel
2. Hires, retains, rewards, supervises and supports Managers of the Shelter, Animal Care &
Control and the Veterinarian Clinic
3. Delegates to administrative personnel to effectively oversee operations, programs, volunteer
coordinator, donor development, fundraising, marketing, events, grants, clinic manager, internal
and external communications
4. Takes corrective action as needed up to and including termination
5. Decides if and when legal council is needed to protect the organization
6. Ensures that the WVHS’s infrastructure effectively and efficiently supports the mission
7. Consults with Operations and Facilities Managers for maintenance, repair and construction
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1. Passion for the humane treatment of animals and issues relating to animal welfare
2. Appropriate degree or equivalent work experience in non-profit, Animal Welfare sector
3. Proven ability to create and execute an annual budget over $2 million
4. Ability to communicate effectively including verbal, writing and public speaking skills
5. Able to work flexible hours, which may include weekends and evenings and being “on call”
6. Computer literate with knowledge of or ability to learn Microsoft Suite, PetPoint Shelter
database, QuickBooks accounting software, Blackbaud donor management database
7. Ability to conduct meetings in person or virtual setting
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
1. Possible exposure to dangerous, diseased, frightened and injured animals
2. Possible exposure to potentially harmful chemicals and drugs
3. The Wenatchee Valley Humane Society (WVHS) is an independent, 501(c)(3), non-profit
organization serving greater Chelan and Douglas Counties with extended services to
neighboring counties in times of emergency and as capacity allows
SALARY RANGE & BENEFITS INFORMATION
Hiring range of $90,000 - $125,000, depending upon experience. Relocation offered.
