Summary

The Executive Director for the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League (ACAPL) works closely with, and reports to, the Board of Directors. The Executive Director will serve as the key spokesperson and visible community leader of the organization. Key focus will be on fundraising/development, community outreach and maintaining operational excellence. The Executive Director oversees all organizational functions including the operation of the animal shelter and the coordination of all programs and services. Manages compliance with local, state and federal regulations.

The general responsibilities of the ED include, but are not limited to, the following:

Key Responsibilities
In collaboration with the Board of Directors, enhance the organization’s fundraising and development capability, including but not limited to special events, cultivation of potential donors and bequests.
Develop relationships with potential donors and cultivate relationships through stewardship, data analysis and evaluation.
Manage donor database, create reports and analysis of donor trends and send bi-weekly solicitation emails and bi-annual mailings.
Ensure that community outreach and events meet strategic goals and provide the best possible return on investment.
Maintain the grant-writing program/spreadsheet, for capital improvement funding, enhanced services as well as additional staffing.
Promote and maintain a favorable image in the community through effective public relations at all levels
Ensure that all program services are provided in an efficient, effective and professional manner.
Work closely with coordinators to develop volunteer, rescues and foster programs.
Develop adoption and placement programs through community involvement and collaboration with other shelters and rescue organizations.
Serve as liaison between the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers.
Animal Shelter Operations
Oversee and ensure all daily operations of the shelter are conducted effectively and efficiently.
Supervise and support the Shelter Manager and Kennel Supervisor in daily shelter operations regarding animal care.
Enforce and clarify organizational policies and procedures and applicable state and federal law, including safety and permits.
Administrative Responsibilities
Oversee all daily administrative operations and interpret and follow all written policies as set by the Board of Directors
Develop and revise organizational policies and procedures.
Maintain accurate and complete records
Assist the Board of Directors in data collection as requested.
Promote a positive business relationships with staff and external veterinarians and care facilities..
Oversee the fiscal affairs of the organization to assure that bills are properly allocated, assets are properly preserved and utilized and that adequate control and reporting procedures are in place.
Work with Finance Committee and Board in formulating a budget plan and reviewing monthly and quarterly financial statements.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Non-Profit Management, Organizational Behavior, Marketing, etc. and /or equivalent work experience
Five to seven (5-7) years of managerial experience preferably in the non-profit sector.
Three (3) or more years of experience in fundraising and development.

Additional Requirements
Ability to lift 50# regularly; stand for long periods of time, climb balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
Frequent hand washing and exposure to antibacterials
Ability to work in noisy environment and deal with animal odors
40 plus hour workweek, including weekends and evenings as scheduled.
Ability to work overtime as needed
Noisy, fast paced and at times stressful environment, exposure to potential infectious and zoonotic illnesses
Willingness to attend training programs and to upgrade skills
Must submit to a background check and have no theft, animal cruelty or felony alcohol or drug related convictions
Valid Ohio driver’s license with good driving record
