The Florida SARC (Florida State Animal Response Coalition) program is dedicated to disaster mitigation, preparation, response, and recovery for emergencies involving companion animals. We are searching for a passionate and committed Community Outreach and Florida SARC Manager ready to make an impact on the lives of animals affected by disasters and those who need help/resources with their pets in the community.

The Community Outreach and Florida SARC Manager will work with animal welfare organizations and individuals across the country by training volunteers to care for animals through deployments during disasters. Responsible for coordinating Florida SARC classes, community outreach, and liaison with shelters, government affiliations, and communicating with the public. Accountable for various projects associated with Florida SARC including state drills, deployments, requests for assistance, and communication. Creates and maintains community and retention programs and resources. The position also works alongside municipal facilities to creatively mitigate the overpopulation of pets in the community, with particular focus on spay/neuter.

The Community Outreach and Florida SARC manager will support our efforts to keep pets in their homes (instead of coming into the shelter) and will significantly support our surrender department. The Manager will serve as a resource for clients who need help keeping their pets at home (and not surrendering them to SPCA Florida). This position supervises and manages the surrender department with two subordinates within the department.

The Community Outreach and Florida SARC Manager will perform duties independently with minimal supervision, operating from specific and defined directions and instructions, all while advocating for SPCA Florida’s vision and mission of helping people and saving pets.
Minimum Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2+ years’ relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience that is determined to be directly related to the specific requirements may be substituted.
• At least two years in animal welfare, and knowledge of progressive animal sheltering policies
• At least one year experience in management.
• Basic knowledge of animal behavior and handling.
• Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training certification – ICS 100, 200, IS 700, 800 required or able to be completed within first 90 days of employment
• Must be available for intermittent day travel to training locations, supply locations, and partner organizations

• Computer skills in a Windows environment including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Shelterluv
