HSC Background
For more than 46 years, the Humane Society of Charlotte has been working toward our mission to champion the wellbeing of companion animals and strengthen their bond with people who know, love and need them. In 1986 HSC opened the first low-cost spay/neuter clinic in the southeast United States. In 2017 we launched a capital campaign to build a new state of the art facility and in 2022 we reached our capital campaign and opened our doors in June. We now have an expanded adoption center, spay/neuter & wellness clinic, pet help center and education center. Our updated facility allows HSC to become more easily accessible to the community and provide a safe space where all people are welcome and treated with the upmost care and respect. At HSC, it is our foundational belief that people will make good decisions for animals when they are treated with kindness and understanding, and when they have enough information and resources.
Our Essential Care Clinic has seen tremendous growth over the past few years. In 2023 we were able to perform 8,162 spay/neuter surgeries and helped nearly 9,000 clients in our essential care clinic with vaccines and wellness visits. We have a goal to complete 9,600 surgeries in 2024 and plan to see continued growth in the years to come. We see many different populations of animals including HSC’s shelter animals, publicly owned pets, community cats as well as having partnerships with surrounding shelters. We believe by addressing various animal populations through our HQHV Spay/Neuter Program we can contribute to a healthier, more balanced community.
Commitment to the Community
It is the community vision of HSC to have a future when all companion animals have the support, care, and human connections needed to live healthy, rewarding lives.

Our vision is for Charlotte to be a humane community, for animals and people and one in which all live together harmoniously.
While many view HSC as an animal centric organization, our intent is to positively impact people and animals. As a non-profit built on the belief that all people are equally deserving of the love and companionship of a pet, HSC’s work is rooted in compassion and equity.
Within our work and in adherence with our vison and mission, we are committed to exemplifying humane behavior and believe there is no place for hate, intolerance, discrimination or racism.
