Pet Helpers Adoption Center and Spay/Neuter clinic in Charleston SC is a forty-six-year-old animal welfare organization that operates an HVHQSN spay/neuter clinic and a limited admission animal shelter. Pet Helpers is dedicated to supporting our community by ending pet overpopulation through spay/neuter, adoptions, community programs, and a low-cost weekly vaccine clinic.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinarian to join our team. The ideal candidate has a strong commitment to animal welfare and will provide high-quality veterinary care. You will be responsible for diagnosing and treating a variety of animal health issues, performing surgical procedures, and educating pet owners about proper care and treatment.

Duties
Perform HVHQ surgical sterilizations (up to 25 per day)
Examine animals’ post-op as necessary to ensure appropriate healing
Provide recommendations for follow-up care
Supervise handling and recording of controlled substances by Veterinary Technicians
Supervise post-operative rechecks and order of medical treatments as necessary to ensure complete surgical recovery
Provide medical oversight of the clinic program, including evaluation of medical, surgical, and disease control protocols
Supervise and conduct vaccine programs and protocols
Conduct daily rounds of shelter animals. Identify and treat all medical issues. Maintain the overall health of animals in our care.
Supervise treatment of animals sent out for external treatment and care
Work with Executive Director to make sure the Clinic is run efficiently and effectively and within budget
Work with Intake and Foster Coordinator to maintain the health of all animals in foster care
Hire and supervise medical staff in conjunction with Executive Director
Evaluate and develop Clinic staff in partnership with the Executive Director
Attend Clinic, staff, and Veterinarian meetings as needed
Handle all animals humanely, properly, and with compassion
After-hours on-call by phone or text for emergencies

Experience
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution.
Valid veterinary license to practice in South Carolina
Experience in shelter medicine preferred
Humane Alliance training preferred
3+ years’ experience in a veterinary clinic, veterinary hospital, and/or animal shelter or control facility
Highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter with a professional attitude and a mission to help end pet overpopulation

The expected hiring range is $124,800 to $145,600 (Full-time) $60.00 - $70.00 per hour (Part-time), commensurate with experience and education. Vacancy to be filled by early 2025.
