AniMeals is Missoula, Montana's only brick-and-mortar feline-centric shelter and animal food bank for companion animals and community cats. We operate a medically and behaviorally-focused shelter that is committed to restoring and maintaining the health of felines with no other options.

Summary: Under the direction of the shelter manager, the Intensive Care Unit Technician is responsible for executing best practices to ensure the health and well-being of shelter animals. This includes routine administration of medications, vaccinating, microchipping, review and assesses newly arrived animals, daily medical rounds of those currently in our care, and following treatment plans guided by a veterinarian.

Scheduling:
Looking for a full-time employee. You get two 15 minutes breaks as well as a hour long lunch every day.

Essential Job Tasks:
Provide appropriate quantity and quality of food and water to shelter animals.
Educate staff and volunteers regarding animal disease spread and control.
Monitor animals and immediately report health, behavior, or temperament issues to supervisor.
Guarantee accurate recordkeeping using PetPoint.
Participate in stress and disease reduction efforts through purposeful and compassionate handling and placement of animals in the shelter.
Assess medical inventory needs and alert supervisor.
Continue education regarding shelter medicine, sterilization, protocols, and related topics.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Treat all animals humanely, with compassion and concern, both on and off the job and promote these values to others.
Answer telephone calls from the public in a professional manner, has ability to direct calls to the proper person or department and initiates follow-ups.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of appropriate medical skills.
Ability to multi-task and be willing to assist in other shelter needs.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to pay attention to detail and make superior decisions.
Follow treatment plans directed by a veterinarian. Ask questions when in doubt.
Ability to maintain accurate records, write legibly and speak effectively regarding principles, purposes, and objectives of AniMeals.
Ability to effectively communicate with veterinarians to ensure all medical needs of the cats are met.

Education and Experience:
• Minimum of one year working in a veterinary clinic or animal shelter.
• A basic understanding of feline behavior & needs.
• Must have a valid driver's license with one year of clean driving record.

Physical Requirements:
• Must be in good health. Any allergies that would be aggravated from exposure or through contact with animals or chemicals used to sanitize facilities may be a disqualification.
• Must stand, walk, bend and stoop frequently to perform duties. Must also have the ability to perform prolonged strenuous physical activity, including lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more.

Working Conditions:
• May be exposed to hostile or abusive members of the public. Must be able to deal with an often times emotion-charged public and carry a fast paced and changing workload which at times can be stressful.
• By nature of the job, there is occasional exposure to injured, sick, or dangerous animals in addition to exposure to parasites and infectious diseases.
• Must be available and willing to work weekends, holidays, attend mandatory training and meetings as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

​Pay and Benefits:

This position pays $16/hr. and an accrual-based vacation policy accessible after a 90-day probationary period. Eligible for two days of paid sick leave accessible after starting, which do not roll over each year.
