Job Summary: Responsible for supervising and growing Ellis County ACC’s lifesaving programs throughout the community and facilitating alternative placements. Responsible for placing animals in adoptive and foster homes via match making, counseling and providing exceptional customer service to prospective adopters. Facilitate positive outcomes for Ellis County ACC pets through rescue placement. Support reunification efforts through microchip research, outreach, and education. Provide onsite admin support to Ellis County ACC.

Summary of Essential Responsibilities 

• Be an ambassador the SPCA of Texas, sharing the work & mission with your friends and family and be knowledgeable of the various ways to support our work. 

• Create a welcoming, fun and inviting experience for all patrons of the SPCA of Texas.

• Provide information to the public about SPCA of Texas programs and promote good animal care and responsible pet ownership. 

• Demonstrate the Core Values of the SPCA of Texas on and off the job.

• In conjunction with the volunteer department, recruit, train, and engage volunteers to care for animals, facilitate onsite and mobile adoptions and provide enhanced customer service.

• Remain up to date on available animals’ information, personalities and medical issues in order to help pets find the perfect home. 

• Assist potential adopters in the selection of animals for adoption to ensure the right fit for the family and the pet and accurately enter adoption information in the software system at the time of adoption.

• Serve as a liaison between Animal Care and Lifesaving Operations to ensure that all Ellis County AAC staff have up to date information on adoption, foster, and rescue operations. 

• Maintain positive relationships with businesses and organizations to grow the mobile adoptions program to maximize adoptions and fundraising opportunities. 

• Manage and plan fun and safe mobile adoption events at retail locations (PetSmart, Petco, etc.) and area businesses.

• Collaborate with Animal Care to determine pets for adoptions or other positive outcomes and ensure they are vetted for adoption or transfer.

• Collaborate with the foster team to grow and manage foster and foster to adopt placements out of Ellis County AAC

• Assist with other Lifesaving activities such as rescue opportunities and transfers through conducting dog assessments, collecting videos and photos, and transporting animals as needed. 

• Conduct microchip research and appropriate outreach to ensure reunification whenever possible. Manage Return to Owner and Owner Surrender appointments, ensuring that Animal Care is aware of incoming and outgoing pets. 

• Assist with animal care duties and administrative tasks as needed. 



Required Experience:

• Minimum of three years of demonstrated sales or customer service experience either retail, direct sales or equivalent animal welfare experience.

• Enthusiastic and friendly attitude to motivate volunteers and staff and positively engage customers during the adoptions process and create a fun and welcoming atmosphere at events.

• Strong communication skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.

• Results oriented, creative and collaborative work style.

• Excellent attention to detail, problem solving and time management skills.

• Animal Handling experience that includes dogs and cats to safely manage multiple animals in an offsite location and to assess candidates for adoption events to ensure the safety of the pets and the public.

• Ability to professionally advocate and communicate the SPCA’s mission and position on issues. 

• High level of interpersonal skills to handle multiple stakeholders both internally and externally. The ideal candidate for the position is a team player, personable, professional, positive, energetic, proactive and uses tact and diplomacy.

• Demonstrated ability in handling multiple priorities and good time management skills.

• This position is regularly required to use hands and fingers, handle, and talk and hear. The incumbent is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch. The position holder must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds of equipment and animals.

• The position holder must be able to operate an oversized motor vehicle. Must be 21 years old to meet insurance requirements and must be qualified and licensed to operate a motor vehicle in Texas.

• Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.

• Must be able to stand or walk outside for long hours in various weather conditions at adoption events 

when applicable. 

• Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions and rapidly and accurately process information 

• Applicant will be exposed to animals, some of which may be fearful and/or exhibit behavioral issues 

• Applicant must be dedicated to providing every animal exceptional care and a loving home. 



Working Conditions:

• The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours. There may also be schedule fluctuations based on events and program needs. 

• While performing the duties of this job this position may be exposed to animal odors or airborne particles. 

• The noise level in the work environment is often high.


Thursday through Monday from 9AM to 6PM
