Job Summary:
Vets in Vans is a nonprofit organization and we are steadfast in our mission to support the human animal bond by providing equitable access to compassionate veterinary care in the Bay Area of California. ViV was created to help provide access to veterinary medicine for families who were either lacking in financial resources, and/or transportation to reach a stand-alone clinic. We NEVER turn away a client for inability to pay for services and we NEVER perform economic euthanasias!

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled veterinarian to join our high-volume nonprofit clinic. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing exceptional care to underserved communities while managing a large caseload efficiently. This role involves working in a fast-paced environment with a focus on delivering quality veterinary care within the constraints of a nonprofit organization. Our caseload is a mixture of wellness and urgent care/emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
Medical and Surgical Care:
Perform comprehensive physical examinations, diagnose conditions, and create treatment plans for a diverse range of animals with clients of diverse financial backgrounds
Be able to practice incremental medicine to make medicine accessible to the community
Potential to perform routine and emergency surgical procedures, including spaying/neutering, soft tissue surgery, and wound repair.
Interpret diagnostic tests, such as blood work and radiographs, and develop appropriate treatment strategies.
Follow up with clients explaining diagnostic results

High-Volume Efficiency:
Manage a high caseload of patients efficiently while maintaining high standards of care.
Optimize clinic workflows to ensure timely and effective delivery of services.
Collaborate with clinic staff to streamline processes and minimize wait times for patients.

Community Outreach and Client Education:
Provide education to pet owners on preventive care, nutrition, and wellness to improve long-term pet health.
Communicate clearly and empathetically with clients about diagnoses, treatment options, and care instructions.
Engage with the community to promote clinic services and educate on responsible pet ownership.

Team Collaboration and Leadership:
Work closely with veterinary technicians, support staff, and volunteers to ensure smooth clinic operations.
Mentor and support junior staff and volunteers, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of clinic policies and procedures.

Resource Management:
Make efficient use of available resources, including medical supplies and equipment, to maximize the impact of the clinic’s services.

Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all patients.
Help with scheduling and managing appointments to handle a high volume of cases effectively.

Advocacy and Support:
Advocate for animal welfare and contribute to the clinic’s mission of providing accessible care to underserved communities.
Support and participate in outreach programs and community events to raise awareness about the clinic’s services and animal welfare issues.

Qualifications:
Education and Certification:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited veterinary school.
Current veterinary license and accreditation as required by state/provincial regulations.

Experience:
Experience working in a high-volume veterinary practice or clinic, preferably within a nonprofit or community-based setting.

Skills:
Strong clinical and surgical skills with the ability to manage a large caseload efficiently.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients and working as part of a team.
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Proficiency in veterinary software and diagnostic tools.

Working Conditions:
Part-time position
Requires standing for extended periods, lifting and carrying moderate to heavy weights, and working in various environmental conditions
