The Humane Society of Pulaski County (HSPC) is seeking a highly motivated, process and procedure-oriented manager committed to the mission, values, goals, and success of HSPC to oversee the daily operations of our animal shelter. This role requires strong leadership skills, a passion for animal welfare, an ability to interact with the public on various concerns, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Execution of HSPC’s mission to “rescue, rehabilitate, provide veterinary care, spay/neuter, and find loving homes for Central Arkansas dogs and cats in need.”
• Animal Care: Ensure all animals are healthy and receive proper care, including feeding, grooming, exercise, and enrichment activities.
• Animal Intake: Manage the intake of animals from area shelters, wait lists, and emergency needs. Monitor available space in the shelter and organize/schedule intake appointments.
• Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise shelter staff. Prepare staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage of PTO, sick, and personal absences. Conduct regular performance evaluations. Develop and lead weekly staff training and ongoing recognition programs.
• Facility Management: Maintain a clean, safe, organized shelter environment. Oversee maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Adoption Services: Oversee the adoption process. Manage and train adoption counselors to screen potential adopters, coordinate meet-and-greets, and process adoption paperwork.
• Veterinary Clinic Oversight: Coordinate and support the veterinary clinic on-site and ensure that shelter and veterinary office goals are aligned. The manager must ensure that animals in our isolation areas are cared for promptly and released for adoption as soon as possible, reducing their stay at the shelter.
• Community Outreach: Establish and maintain strong partnerships with leaders of other rescues and city/county officials.
• Budget Management: Manage expenses and provide feedback on the shelter’s budget. Monitor employee overtime and ensure resources are used responsibly and effectively.
• Record Keeping: Ensure staff retains accurate records of animal intake, care, and adoptions. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

• Experience with computer technology, including Outlook, Excel, MS Word, database management, and the ability to learn new software as needed. Animal Shelter Manager (ASM) experience is a plus.
• Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Schedule will include five eight-hour workdays, including one or more weekend days, and holidays.
• Be available after hours for emergency shelter needs.
