This position is responsible for overseeing all of the sheltering operations of the LifeLine Community Animal Center, including animal care, adoption, foster, behavior, and the volunteer program. The Shelter Director acts as a safety net by leading their team to support other LifeLine shelters and clinics, as well as organization and community initiatives and events.

• Oversee shelter operations. Plan and coordinate all animal care and placement activities.
• Support other LifeLine operations through coordination with other Shelter Directors. Pull animals, assist with medical and care needs and provide advice and recommendations when possible.
• Maintain animal records. Create reports and presentations when requested.
• Maintain shelter budget and authorize expenses.
• Keep inventory of supplies and order as needed. Oversee maintenance of drug logs and medication records for shelter animals.
• Maintain physical condition of building.
• Supervise staff. Interview, hire, train, counsel and evaluate performance.
• Lead vaccine events – plan, order supplies, schedule staff.
• Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with other rescue organizations.
• Participate in Leadership discussions, committees and trainings.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
• Expert knowledge of animal care principles and practices.
• Previous experience as a Shelter Director or Shelter Manager.
• Ability to build and lead a diverse workforce.
• Knowledge of basic budgeting and expenditure management.
• Ability to interact with impounded dogs, cats and other animals including vicious, stray, sick or injured animals. Ability to handle seeing and dealing with animals that have been abused, neglected or treated cruelly.
• Intermediate knowledge of office and shelter software systems, ability to quickly learn software functions.
• Must be available to work on weekends.

Education and/or Experience:
• Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
• Seven plus year’s experience in animal welfare, with at least three in an executive-management position.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
• Certification in euthanasia may be required.
• Valid, Georgia Drivers license may be required.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to a kennel that is not air-conditioned and may be exposed to unpleasant kennel smells. May have to handle dogs and cats that are stray, injured, diseased or vicious.
