Job Description
Job Summary:The Shelter Manager is a working manager and is part of the workforce. The Manager is required to abide by all procedures and policies as mandated by the Board of Directors and Executive Director. The Manager- if also an HSPO- will answer emergency HSPO calls after the shelter closes when no other HSPO is available. Shelter Managers are required to work at least one weekend day per month.
Essential Duties:
• Oversee employees, providing them with guidance and training.
• Communicate staff problems and/or client complaints to administration when
necessary.
• Speak with Executive Director-Operations Manager before taking disciplinary action with employees.
• Keeps records on staff performance.
• Responsible for reporting any animal health problems to staff veterinarian.
• Keeps track of adoption procedures and kennel population.
• Maintains shelter animal population, trained in performing euthanasia.
• Provide Operations Manager or Purchasing Manager with accurate records of
supplies on hand, and items needed. This includes all controlled substances,
• veterinarian supplies, and equipment.
• Specific Shelter Managers will provide a written report to the Board of Directors each month the Board meets. They will also provide an annual report for the
Annual Board of Directors Meeting.
• Attend fundraising events when possible as our representative.
• One Saturday per month Shelter Manager is on duty at the facility.
• The Shelter Manager is available to answer inquiries by phone when necessary.
Knowledge and Skills:
Shelter Managers will have extensive knowledge of management techniques and operations of non-profit animal organizations. They will need to demonstrate
organizational and leadership skills and generally oversee a staff of 7-12
employees.
Working Conditions:
Shelter Managers will be required to perform a wide variety of tasks that range in physical requirements from limited exertion up to heavy lifting and handling of aggressive animals.
