About the Location
Hybrid Position: This position may be considered Hybrid based on PetSmart’s FlexSmart policy and business needs. A Hybrid work arrangement is considered to be a blend of onsite and remote work activity. Associates with a Hybrid work arrangement have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can be required to come onsite between 1-5 days a week as determined by leadership and based on business needs.
About the Job
Summary
This job is responsible for overseeing PetSmart Charities’ & PetSmart Charities of Canada’s pet placement portfolio and its strategic grant categories related to pet adoption and animal welfare. This includes strategies that create stronger communities by connecting pets with loving homes through a variety of in person and digital means with a focus on equity, inclusion and low-barrier adoptions. This portfolio manages over $12M in annual grants and financial rewards. The position will have management responsibilities for four (4) Lead Adoption Grant Managers who are responsible for cultivating and managing partner relationships across 2k+ non-profits and 1700+ PetSmart Stores. The Senior Manager of Pet Placement represents PetSmart Charities on local and national levels, drives the implementation of portfolio goals identifies opportunities that promote the strategic initiatives surrounding pet placement, including in-store pet adoptions in both the United States and Canada. This position reports to the Director of Pet Placement Initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program and Grants Management
- Strategic development and implementation oversight of Pet Placement Initiatives
- Create and manage strategic initiatives that increase the visibility of and enhances the in-store Adoption Program, including pilot programs, national promotional activities with PetSmart and adoptions-focused grants.
- Provides leadership & oversight for 16+ Everyday Adoption Centers, PetSmart Charities adoption centers in retail locations, operated by non-profit partners. Sustain use of the facilities through needed repairs, contracts, and partnerships. In coordination with Leadership Team, support and execute strategy for future direction of PetSmart Charities owned adoption spaces.
- Act as Subject Matter Expert for animal welfare and sheltering issues and provide consultation and recommendations for Charities grant makers. Use this knowledge to assist in the creation of policy and risk management for PetSmart, PetSmart Charities and PetSmart Charities of Canada.
- Supports rollout, implementation and change management for PetSmart Charities online adoption tools (Adoptions Made Easy) and policies (e.g. Adoption Partner Manual & Everyday Adoption Center Manual)
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Leadership & Management
- In concert with the Director of Pet Placement Initiatives and the leadership team, develop and oversee adoption grantmaking strategies supported by PetSmart Charities.
- Identify and support priority outreach and communications opportunities to improve external stakeholder understanding of Charities’ brand and impact.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Team Development
- Attract, develop, coach, and retain high-performance team members, mentoring to elevate team members’ expertise, span of control and grant performance management.
- Serve on teams and working groups tasked with developing or revising communications, guidelines, policies, and processes on program delivery, monitoring, compliance, data analysis, performance management, risk assessment and related operational goals and objectives.
Industry Knowledge & Involvement
- Engage strategic regional and national relationships that support the portfolio’s grant strategies.
- Track industry trends and knowledge management, utilizing networks and expertise in animal welfare to provide input and recommendations for Charities’ strategies, policy, and risk management.
- Utilize national and local data to inform strategies
External Representation
- Represent PetSmart Charities externally as required to promote the mission, brand and strategic focus within the animal welfare sector.
- Build & sustain partnerships with national and field level PetSmart leadership.
- Represent PetSmart Charities at national conferences, online education and across all stakeholders.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This job supervises a team of Lead Adoption Grants Managers.

Salary
- $105,000-$145,000 + bonus. The final rate will be based in part on relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. In no circumstance will PetSmart pay less than the applicable local minimum wage requirement.
