The Veterinarian is part of a collaborative, community-facing team that assists the St. Louis community with a wide range of needs. The Vet Clinic team is responsible for the care of all animals at the shelter. This role prioritizes informative, empathetic, non-judgemental communication with community members by phone, email, and in person. Communication should be done with the utmost respect, professionalism, and compassion.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Will work at the CARE STL Vet Clinic
Assists in the development and implementation of goals, Standard Operating Procedures, and training for the CARE STL veterinary program.
Provides vaccine protocols, disease prevention/control, parasite diagnosis/treatment, behavioral evaluations and modification, and dietary recommendations.
Examine animals, assess overall health, and formulate treatment plans. Performs cruelty exams, and necropsy, and is available for legal testimony in animal cruelty matters.
Performs surgical sterilization of dogs and cats, including pediatric and high-volume spay/neuter.
Is available for consultation with rescue partners. Works collaboratively with veterinarians in the community. Work with Community partners regarding CARE STL community programs.
Performs all necessary euthanasia according to established protocol.
Establishes and maintains accurate medical records and drug use logs to standards of veterinary and sheltering practices; ensures that records are complete and secure.
Ensures that all state and federal laws, state regulations, veterinary medical board standards, DEA/BNDD rules, and animal care and handling standards are adhered to.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current shelter medicine best practices, surgical procedures, and companion animal health issues. Complies with State of MO veterinary licensing requirements including continuing education.
Builds effective relationships through positive interaction and communication with the community, volunteers, and staff. Requires that all clinic staff utilize, appreciate, and welcome volunteer support.
Makes recommendations for medications and supplies that are within budget guidelines and suggests ways to save money in the veterinary clinic to help us save more animals.
