Shelter Medicine -- Veterinarian

SPCA Florida is seeking a Shelter Veterinarian who wants to make a difference in a positive environment. Join our dynamic SPCA Florida team and the dedicated nurses / technicians who are changing the lives of homeless animals in Polk County. Candidates should be positive, solution oriented, and mission driven to handle 5,000 + dogs and cats each year.

We pride ourselves on creating a friendly, welcoming culture and we consider ourselves to be a part of a big family. We work very closely with each other, and everyone is always willing to help their colleagues. We process and find forever homes for approximately 4,500 dogs and cats each year, have a significant foster and adoption program, a transfer program, and FL SARC, a FEMA approved emergency response program that covers Florida and the US natural and manmade disasters.

Our growing community of Lakeland, Florida is a great place to call home with lots of sunshine! We are less than an hour away from beaches, Tampa International Airport, and Orlando’s activities, parks, lakes, and trails to explore. Florida does not have a state income tax and Lakeland, one of the fastest growing cities in the US, still maintains beautiful yet affordable housing.

Qualifications

• DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary school in general practice.
• Active, non-restricted state veterinary license.
• Current DEA license or ability to obtain.
• Positive Leadership
• Invested in building trusting relationships with colleagues, volunteers, and the community.
• Mindset and desire to grow skills, and the desire to mentor staff to keep them growing and excelling.

• Public Service Loan Forgiveness:
By working for SPCA Florida, you could be eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness for your Federal School Loans. You must make 120 monthly loan payments (10 years) towards the loan. These payments must be made:
• For the full amount due.
• On time, meaning within 15 days of your due date.
• On or after Oct.1, 2007.
• While you’re working full time for a qualifying employer and on a qualifying repayment plan.
