Job Description

The Oahu SPCA Veterinary and Shelter Facility Director is responsible for the success and growth of the organization’s clinics, shelter and self-sustaining operation. This position is responsible for the planning, directing and operation of the shelter and veterinary clinic services including training support staff, the humane treatment and plan for all animals coming through the doors, facility maintenance and operations, increased revenue numbers associated with all services bringing in revenue which includes adoption, special programs, donations, low cost spay neuter and wellness and vaccine clinics, etc. The Director must possess excellent management, organization and communication skills as well as customer service and a proven dedication to the humane care of animals. Must be qualified and able to excel in assigned duties in all functional areas of responsibility as well as has proven success as a positive and supportive team leader.

The Veterinary and Shelter Facility Director's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Personnel & Operations Management

Oversee employees; including hiring, scheduling, conducting performance evaluations, promotions and disciplinary action, and termination.
Work with the Animal Care and Veterinary teams regarding animal health issues, animal transport and euthanasia.
Maintain and regularly update the operation manual and employee handbook with Board input and approval
Oversee shelter programs with other community organizations.
Shelter & Clinic Operations:

Plans, develops, administers, and implements operational policies, procedures, rules and regulations; participates in the development of goals, objectives, and strategic planning for the successful and humane care and treatment of animals
Ensure high-quality animal care and fear free methods when possible.
Oversee and participate in intake, medical care, behavioral enrichment and adoption services, including the low-cost spay/neuter program and vaccine and wellness clinics
Regularly evaluate programs and prices to ensure accessibility as well as profitability
Manage weekly clinic and adoptions schedule to ensure highest efficiency and schedule support staff accordingly
Provide exceptional customer service with Aloha and encourage ongoing engagement with organization with every interaction.
Manage effective systems to track progress and regularly evaluate program components, measuring successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, staff, donors and other constituents.
Oversee maintenance of the facilities and property.
Oversee ordering of supplies and manage inventory and retail.
Provide support to staff members as needed.
General oversight of clinic and shelter operations.
Educate the public on responsible pet ownership and the importance of spay neuter and how it impacts our community
Financial Management

Manage and record cash receipts, cash disbursements, accounts receivable/ payable and profit and loss statements.
Prepare employee payroll information and forward to the accountant.
Manage finances and spending
Development

Build and maintain relationships with clients, volunteers, funders and donors.
Research grants and grant reporting data, and manage donor appeals.
Develop fundraisers and large scale community events, assist board members with annual Gala.
Community Outreach and Public Relations

Develop and manage community outreach initiatives, marketing and public relations.
Create marketing and promotional materials, maintain branding on all content.
Manage and expand educational and volunteer programs.
Foster good relationships with local veterinarians and animal-related businesses, as well as local newspapers and other community organizations.
Manage online marketing including social media, E-mail blasts and shelter website.
Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
Passion for animal welfare; current working knowledge of companion animal care, veterinary care and adoption issues.
Current understanding of compliance issues involving pertinent federal, state and local regulations.
Experience with strategic and operational planning.
Understanding of financial management and accounting principles.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong public speaking
Ability to set clear priorities, delegate and guide investment in people and systems; keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills, which support and enable sound decision making.
Strong motivational skills, management skills and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide staff and community leadership.
Strong commitment to the professional development of staff and a successful track record of recruiting and retaining a diverse team.
Ability to encourage staff to share ideas and take appropriate initiative.
Ability to be flexible and able to adapt to immediate or unforeseen challenges.
Proficiency in the use of computers, particularly E-mail, the Internet, MS Word and Excel; QuickBooks experience is a plus.
Demonstrated proficiency across multiple social media platforms.
Must be willing to work in a shelter & clinic environment (wet, smells, pet dander, animal waste, blood, etc.)
Salary Range: $85,000- $110,000 commensurate upon experience
