Building Bridges: Advocating for Pet-Inclusive Housing Policies in Maine

Pet-inclusive housing is more than just a convenience for pet owners; it plays a crucial role in our collective health and wellness and fosters healthier and stronger communities. Pets have become more central in people’s lives, yet restrictive rental housing policies have led to increased pet relinquishment, have been applied inequitably, and have strained finite resources. As a result, many families are forced to choose between a roof over their head and a beloved companion and family member.
To keep people and pets together, we need to tackle this problem at its core. Advocates can drive change by engaging policymakers to enact inclusive housing laws, educating communities and collaborating with stakeholders about the benefits of pet-inclusive policies.
