Brian Daugherty

Senior Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer, San Diego Humane Society

Brian Daugherty has more than 25 years of experience in philanthropy and has worked for a variety of organizations in the nonprofit arena, including the Baltimore Symphony, the Baltimore Zoo, the University of California, San Diego, and University of San Diego. He currently serves as the Senior Vice President & Chief Philanthropy Officer at San Diego Humane Society. Brian’s passion to turn his hobbies into a career, combined with his inherent weakness in spatial logic that prohibited him from following his idol Art Vandelay into architecture, led him to a career in nonprofit work. Brian hopes that one day Steve Buscemi will be cast to play him in the movie adaptation of his life that will surely make its way to the big screen. Until then, he will continue to channel his energy toward ensuring that San Diego Humane Society develops a thriving Culture of Philanthropy that fully supports their mission and the 50,000 animals they help annually. Brian’s experience includes extensive work on telemarketing campaigns, direct mail, board management, comprehensive campaigns, e-philanthropy, personal solicitations and making the perfect pancake. He has significant experience in statistical data analysis and strategic planning and has been a team member of comprehensive campaigns ranging in scope from $16 million to $1 billion. Additionally, he has received perfect scores on both the Myers Briggs and Rorschach tests. Brian has served as the fundraising chair for several nonprofit organizations and is a frequent presenter to the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Annual Giving Professionals Network (AGPN) and Academic Impressions. He also has written for CASE Currents magazine and hopes one day to host Saturday Night Live. Brian holds a bachelor’s in finance from the University of South Florida and a master’s in nonprofit management and leadership from the University of San Diego. And while not recognized by any formal governing body, he holds an honorary doctoral degree in hyperbole and sarcasm.
