Job Description
Our Animal Care Coordinator responsibilities will include the following:-Oversee and ensure all tasks are done correctly, efficiently, and in a timely manner.
-Ensure that all pets are healthy, physically and emotionally cared for and any medical or behavioral issue is addressed immediately.
-Evaluate, observe, and record emotional or behavioral problems and implement a treatment plan.
-Oversee day-to-day operations, handle and/or report all situations that may affect the animals or operations of RVHS to your supervisor.
-Offer training and instructions to all new staff and volunteers on animal care, shelter procedures, and computer programs following RVHS protocol and standard of care on a monthly basis (or more when necessary).
-Ensure all staff is knowledgeable, understands and promotes all facility programs, events and adoptable pets.
-Perform, monitor and delegate medical procedures following RVHS protocol and standard of care procedures. Ensure that all animals are clean, healthy and are receiving all required medications vaccinations and testing. Oversee and closely monitor sick and neonate animals and treatment plans are being followed. Ensure all required information is recorded and reported to appropriate supervisors.
-Ensure intake examinations are completed and recorded by close of intake day.
Record monthly animal count, intake and adoptions for Shelter Animals Count and make sure all numbers are accurate and saved on computer.
-Actively recruit, review, and inspect homes and train foster partners for proper animal placement. Maintain follow up communications of all our foster partners and animals in their care.
-Monitor available space in shelter and assign animals to appropriate kennels and cages in our facility
-Maintain close communication with foster families and newly adopted pets.
-Ensure surgeries, medical appointments and veterinary instructions are made and followed through.
-Weekend and on call work when needed.
-All communications are handled in a professional and timely manner.
-Perform pet introductions and home inspections
Knowledge, skills and abilities
-A two year college degree or minimum of 3 years’ experience in animal shelter or animal welfare required
-Priority is given to applicants who have at least 1 year of managerial experience in a professional setting, experience in social media content creation and/or email marketing, possess a professional dog training certification (CCPDT/IAABC), or who are licensed as a veterinary technician in the state of Oregon
-Effectively coordinate, evaluate, delegate and monitor staff and animals in a fast paced, high emotion environment.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Ability to work independently and effectively with other managers and staff in order to accomplish daily tasks as well as strategic plans and contribute effectively as part of a team.
-Ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments/work activities.
Additional Job Information
-This position will provide an average of 30-40 hours per week; occasional overtime required.
-This position does involve working weekends and in both of our canine and feline departments.
-This position does involve a fair amount of physical labor since this role is required to fill in for Animal Care and Adoption Technician staff in the event of vacation/sickness/call outs.
