Job Description

Reports directly to the Shelter Supervisor or Director
Continuously cleans and disinfects shelter kennel areas and cages where animals are kept, while following proper protocol.
Cleans and sterilizes animal food and water bowls
Provides food and water to animals as often as needed based on age and size
Guidelines:
Twice a day feeding for adult animals
Must be comfortable handling all types of dogs and cats in addition to other types of "pocket pets".
2-3 times a day feeding for juvenile animals
Observes animal’s general health, diet, weight, appetite, etc., and reports any concerns to the shelter supervisor or vet tech.
Must be able to safely restrain animals and assist vet tech or shelter supervisor when needed
Inform shelter supervisor when supplies and stock need to be ordered
Do laundry
Socialize animals, including exercise, basic training, and dog walking
Must be available to attend staff meetings and training classes
Greet and interview the public who wish to adopt
Interview, counsel and screen potential adopters for proper placement
Counsel adopters to aid in selecting the right animal for their lifestyle
Educate the adopter in responsible pet ownership
Requirements:

Strong cleaning abilities
Capable of standing for extended periods of time
Ability to take direction and follow directions
Love of animals and demonstrated capacity for compassion
Ability to work as part of a team
Successful completion of high school diploma is strongly urged but not required
Ability to read and understand English
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday 8A-4P, Tuesday 8A-12P. Holidays required on a modified schedule.
