Job Description
The Animal Services Supervisor oversees and participates in the day-to-day operations of the City’s animal services program, ensuring compliance with state and municipal codes and promoting the humane treatment of animals. Responsibilities include organizing, scheduling, assigning, and reviewing staff work; evaluating employee performance; providing technical training; and ensuring adherence to professional and regulatory standards. The supervisor investigates code violations, collects evidence, prepares complex reports, and may testify in administrative or court proceedings. Additional duties include monitoring operations, identifying opportunities for improvement, assisting in budget preparation, and maintaining effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.Assignments may include work in the Animal Shelter or Field Services sections. In the shelter, the supervisor oversees animal care and euthanasia procedures, coordinates volunteer activities, and ensures quality customer service. In the field, the supervisor directs and participates in enforcement activities, investigates animal-related complaints, issues citations and warnings, and manages quarantine and impoundment procedures. This position plays a key leadership role in supporting staff, ensuring safe and humane operations, and upholding the City’s commitment to responsible animal care and community safety.
