Director of Operations

Primary Function:
Direct and oversee the operational areas of the organization including Intake/Transport, Foster, Health and Wellness, Surgery and Adoptions. Work closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to ensure all departments operate efficiently, align with the organization's mission and strategic goals and contribute to the organization's long term success. Provide guidance, support and supervision to operational staff, while driving process improvements, enhancing life saving outcomes and ensuring exceptional service to animals, volunteers and the community.

Essential Responsibilities:
Oversee all operational areas: Intake/Transport, Foster, Health and Wellness, Surgery and Adoption
Supervise Operations Manager and ensure smooth daily operations across these functional areas
Ensure all departmental policies, procedures and practices align with the organization’s mission, vision, values and strategic objectives
Continuously evaluate internal operations to identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, increase life saving capacity and support overall organizational goals
Ensure consistent understanding and execution of organizational policies and procedures among staff and volunteers
Facilitate and lead meetings, work groups and cross-departmental communication to foster alignment and collaboration
Develop and implement systems for efficient communication and information sharing regarding operational policies and execution across departments
Analyze operational data and metrics to evaluate performance and ensure effective and efficient execution of procedures
Deliver timely, accurate and data driven reports on current operations and future forecasts to support informed decision making
Collaborate with the executive Director and leadership team on both short and long term organizational planning and growth initiatives
Oversee inventory management and procurement of all operational materials and supplies
Develop area budgets, manage costs and assist with financial forecasting
Participate in expansion efforts such as acquisitions, new program development and strategic partners
Ensure that all operations are compliant with applicable local, state and federal regulations

Leadership Requirements:
Demonstrates a deep commitment to animal welfare and a strong passion for delivering exceptional care to homeless animals and every animal in the organizations care
Demonstrated ability to lead effectively, supervise multiple personnel and build strong cohesive teams and inclusive culture
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities and emotional intelligence
Proven experience in staff training, mentoring and coaching to promote professional growth and performance
Skilled in managing multiple tasks and competing priorities in a fast paced environment
Ability to understand the broader organizational vision while developing and executing detailed operational plans
Strong track record of working both independently and collaboratively to meet organizational goals

Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 10 years of business management experience, preferable in a non-profit
Graduate degree from a recognized university or institute
Minimum of 5 years experience in animal welfare and operational leadership is required
Strong knowledge of human resource best practices, including staff development, performance management and staff engagement

Reports to:
Executive Director

Schedule:
Full time 40+ hours per week
Primarily Monday thru Friday daytime hours
Some evening and weekends required to meet organizational demands

Location:
Primarily home office
Safe Hands headquarters 1-2 times a week
Off site work as needed
