Job Description
Worcester Animal Rescue League (WARL) seeks a passionate and experienced leader to serve as its next Executive Director. The Executive Director will provide strong leadership and operational oversight for the shelter and be responsible for stabilizing, optimizing, and improving core programs following a period of organizational transition.
The ideal candidate is a proven animal welfare, veterinary services, or nonprofit management leader who thrives in culture transformation, operational efficiency, and team development. They must present a clear vision and engage the community and donors. They will drive the programs that support the lifesaving care of animals at WARL.

Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
· Recruit, develop, and maintain a motivated, well-trained, and reliable shelter team of staff and volunteers.
· Instill a culture that fosters collaboration, accountability, and mission alignment.
· Work closely with the Board of Directors to develop, implement, and regularly update strategic plans, along with goals, objectives, and measurements to evaluate and support the ongoing mission and direction of the organization.
· Mentor and develop the Shelter Manager, ensuring strong leadership at every level.
· Provide stability and direction to staff and volunteers during a period of organizational transition.
· Develop and maintain operational protocols that align with animal shelter best practices.
· Work closely with volunteer coordinator to enhance volunteer engagement in shelter.
Fundraising and Financial Management
· Maintain financial oversight including annual budget and financial reports to ensure fiscal health of the organization.
· Analyze and optimize shelter performance to meet financial and operational goals.
· Prepare and present regular operational reports to the Board of Directors.
· Develop and manage a multi-faceted fundraising strategy that includes creative, as well as traditional, funding strategies, techniques, and approaches.
· Provide training on donor relations strategy for the Board.
· Support fundraising and grant-writing efforts to secure resources for continued growth.
Strategic Growth and Community Engagement
· Build and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, including veterinary partners, donors, and the broader community.
· Serve as the organization's spokesperson for WARL, promoting the mission to donors, media, and community stakeholders.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
All candidates should have proven leadership, fundraising, and management experience as well as:
· Minimum of 5 years of experience working in an animal rescue/shelter environment.
· Minimum of 3 years of leadership and management experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
· Bachelor’s degree or commensurate fundraising and management experience.
· CAWA credential is helpful but not mandatory.
· Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of WARL.
· Experience supervising employees, creating effective teams, and building a work culture reflective of the agency’s mission and goals.
· Strong fiscal management and planning ability
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $95,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
