Job Description

About us
Baywater Animal Rescue

Founded in 1947, Baywater Animal Rescue (BAR) operated first as The Animal Welfare League of Dorchester County and, later, as the Humane Society of Dorchester County.

In 2009, we became a “no-kill” organization, following the tenets of no-kill advocates such as Nathan Winograd. We are now a safe place; a sanctuary for homeless companion animals. We euthanize only when necessary to end suffering caused by untreatable injuries and illness or when an animal is dangerous and cannot be remediated. Baywater will never put an animal down just because we need space.

We make a lifetime commitment to the animals we shelter. We dedicate resources to quality adoptions, foster homes, sheltering, community outreach and education. We advocate spaying and neutering and also support trap and release programs for free roaming cats.

Currently, we find good homes for homeless animals, many of which were previously abused, abandoned, or rescued from partnering organizations. We shelter over 500 animals each year, guaranteeing them a safe haven until they are adopted. We spay or neuter and vaccinate all of our animals before they go to their new homes.

Thank you for your interest in Baywater Animal Rescue, “the Eastern Shore’s Leading Animal Welfare Organization!” We are always looking for volunteers and adoptive homes for our rescued pets!
