Position: Manager of Feline Intake, Care and AdoptionsDepartment: Feline Intake, Care and Adoptions
Reports to: Director of Feline Operations
Category: Full-time; Exempt
Supervises: Feline Intake, Care and Adoption Team
Salary range: $45,000 - $55,000
Schedule: 5 shifts weekly with at least one regularly scheduled weekend shift. Some holidays are required.
Job Purpose:
The Manager of Feline Intake, Care and Adoptions drives the success of KC Pet Project’s cat programs through strategic and operational leadership, instilling a culture of compassion and empathy, and empowering team members to partner with our community as stakeholders in our mission and lifesaving efforts. The Feline Intake, Care and Adoptions program is made up of a robust team of cross-functional staff and volunteers. This position is responsible for effective planning and execution of daily operations to meet the needs of our organization and our community, including staffing, training and development, customer experience excellence, service delivery, problem de-escalation and resolution, and performance monitoring. The ideal candidate will have experience with fear-free cat handling, customer service, managing a team in a high stress environment and demonstrate strong communication skills.
Duties and Daily Responsibilities:
Responsible for being an exemplary role model in customer experience excellence. Make a good appearance, maintain a positive attitude, and deal tactfully and effectively with the public. Deploy team building and professional development strategies to create and retain a high-performing team, and ensure all team members, both staff and volunteers, are properly trained, adequately utilized and provided opportunities for continued growth.
Maintain an extensive knowledge of internal shelter policies and processes, community resources, animal control ordinances, local and state regulations, and appropriate standards of care. Stay up to date on organizational needs and capacity to proactively align support.
Provide ongoing management, accountability, coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to elevate performance, support personal growth, and act as exemplary representatives of the organization.
Demonstrate progressive leadership, actively contribute to reaching department and organization goals, and ensure completion of assigned department tasks and responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner.
Be the primary liaison for cross-departmental communications. Participates in meetings with other KCPP personnel and shares ideas and suggestions designed to improve working conditions and the organization's ability to meet its lifesaving objectives.
Process all daily paperwork, deposits, and other essential processes with accuracy and attention to detail. Responsible for proper internal controls and bookkeeping, including controlling costs to ensure budgets are maintained.

Ensure appropriate standards of care are executed for the animals housed at KC Pet Project, including fundamental basic care, disease prevention, safe and humane handling, health and behavior observations, enrichment, and sanitation.
Develop and implement strategic operating plans to ensure service expectations are met and delivered consistently. Proactively report on department accomplishments and successes.
Manage and conduct appropriate matchmaking and/or adoption interviews and assist and provide information to potential and/or new adopters to foster successful long-term placement. Ensure all transaction paperwork and computer records are complete and accurate in PetPoint.
Manage and maintain community engagement efforts to increase volunteer and donor support through in-kind and monetary donations, volunteer service, and customer satisfaction surveys and platforms.
Adhere to and ensure compliance with all KC Pet Project organizational policies and procedures and safety guidelines and procedures.
Participate in decision making process for end-of-life consideration for cats.
Communicate regularly with the Director of Feline Operations about departmental issues.
Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned, or needed.

Working Conditions
Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, high noise levels, extreme temperatures, hazardous chemicals, and sharp objects. Must be able to lift up to 50 lb., sustain long periods of standing, bending, stooping, reaching and animal handling and restraint for various activity levels of animals in an animal shelter-type setting. Must be able to effectively manage and navigate the emotional aspects of animal welfare.
Qualifications and Requirements:
High School or equivalent.
Minimum three years of experience in a customer service or retail sales role, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity. Supervisory experience should include leading customer or retail programs with demonstrated success.
Minimum two years of experience in hands-on animal care/handling is required.
Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Bilingual (English/Spanish) or multilingual is preferred but not required.
