Have you always wanted to care for animals who are in need? If so, we are seeking a dedicated person to join our team as our Intake and Transfer Coordinator! The Roanoke Valley SPCA is a community-focused adoption facility working to keep pets and people together by providing pet adoption, retention, and education services in Virginia’s Blue Ridge.

POSITION: Intake and Transfer Coordinator

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Benefits Eligible

SUPERVISOR:                Operations Director

SCHEDULE:                    34 hours per week. Regular schedule is 9:30AM-5:00PM on Monday to Friday. Occasional weekend hours required for special events.

STARTING RANGE:       $14-16/hour depending on experience

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Intake and Transfer Coordinator will coordinate the intake of all animals into the shelter. They will assess each pet for adoption to ensure a happy and healthy environment for all pets in our care. They will coordinate with other shelters and rescue groups to transfer pets in and out of our facility. While this position requires direct hands-on and often lengthy work with some behaviorally and medically compromised animals it is also an exciting opportunity to play a direct role in supporting the Roanoke Valley SPCA in achieving our mission.

EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Required 18+ years old. Required excellent communication skills. Required ability to handle pets of all sizes, including large dogs. Required valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Required ability to perform the physical duties of the position, including repetitive standing, bending, twisting, and lifting 50 pounds. Required ability to stand for extended periods. Preferred animal care experience in a kennel environment. Preferred Fear Free Certification.
