JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Manager of Foster and Volunteer Resources
DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO: Director of Foster and Volunteer Resources
STATUS: Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Manager of Foster and Volunteer Resources engages animal lovers from across Chicagoland to provide direct support to Anti-Cruelty’s programs and services. By recruiting, training, and retaining our volunteers, the Manager of Foster and Volunteer Resources is directly equipping people to put their compassion to action. We are looking for an energetic, outgoing, and people-focused individual to join our team. This person will build and nurture strong relationships with volunteers, team members, and stakeholders, acting as a liaison between the different groups.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Uphold The Anti-Cruelty Society’s Mission, Vision, and Values
• Honor the PETS Agreement to Praise, Engage, Trust, and Support peers while fostering an inviting, inclusive atmosphere.
• Provide continual evaluation of processes and procedures. Responsible for suggesting methods to improve efficiency and best care.
• Deliver a positive, memorable experience to everyone who engages with the organization.
• Use strong communication skills to inspire and motivate others, ensuring a positive and energetic culture
• Steward a culture of caring by engaging direct reports with professionalism and kindness.
• Remain proactive in foster population monitoring, problem solving, and inter-departmental communication.
• Develop and oversee the consistent onboarding and training of new volunteers and fosters.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of ASV Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters and other industry sources.
• Manage assigned personnel including: job assignment, training, development, evaluation, discipline, and separation.
• Collaborate with other departments in determining best outcome for each animal. When necessary, work within The Anti-Cruelty Society Euthanasia Principles to make euthanasia decisions as needed.
• Provide ongoing feedback to Director of Foster and Volunteer Resources
• Assist with the oversight of the Foster and Volunteer Facebook pages, as well as being an active member on Slack.
• Perform basic administrative tasks such database entry, filing, and archiving.
• Work with the adoption team to plan and execute special foster adoption strategies.
• Trouble-shoot emerging volunteer concerns.
• Capture photographs, video and other media of volunteers in action
• Assist with special events and additional projects as needed

· Strong leadership skills and an ability to take initiative
· Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in writing, in-person, virtually or by phone.
· Ability to remain calm and empathetic in high stress situations
· Detail oriented and effectively multi-tasks under pressure
· Comfortable handling cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small adoptable pets
· Exclusively utilize positive reinforcement training techniques
· Exceptional organizational skills and a high sense of urgency
· Comfortable utilizing technology and social media to perform assigned duties
· Excellent listening skills
· Works well in a team environment while motivating, coaching, and supporting peers
· Completes assigned tasks and duties accurately and promptly
· Provides support for the organization’s vision and direction
· Comfortable with public speaking, both in-person and through virtual platforms for both small and large groups.
· Ability to work in an open-office environment.
· Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.
· Due to nature of shelter work, may be exposed to deceased, fractious, or aggressive animals; hostile or irate persons; zoonotic or other diseases; unpleasant noises, odors, or sights; and extreme temperatures.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum of one year of supervisory experience required
• Minimum of one year of customer service experience preferred
• Animal handling experience preferred
• One to three years of experience working in this field or related field preferred
• Experience using a volunteer management software such as Better Impact, animal management software such as PetPoint, and Scheduling software like Accuity.
Note: A comparable combination of education, experience or training that would provide the level of knowledge, skills and ability required may qualify individuals


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have an understanding and passion for animal welfare issues
• Be comfortable working in an-open admission shelter where animals may have a variety of outcomes including euthanasia
• Should be able to lift at least 20 pounds
• Should be able to comfortably navigate stairs
• Available to work an extended schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings and holidays according to demands of the role and tasks.
• Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License with a clean driving record. The ability to drive a cargo van is also required.
