Position Summary: The Manager of Shelter Operations is a leadership position requiring strong organizational, interpersonal communication and multitasking skills, a passion for supporting and improving humane animal treatment as well as a focus on serving community needs and promoting the mission and work of the Humane Society of Schuyler County. This position will serve on the management team and work closely with the Board of Directors and Executive Director to ensure that organizational policies are in place and in compliance with all applicable state and federal laws and to shape the policies and future of the organization.
This position requires a strong leader with demonstrated management skills and an understanding of the challenges of working in a not-for-profit organization. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Manager of Operations oversees the daily operations of the organization. This position will also drive continuous improvements, with a strong focus on excellent customer service, adoptions, education and best practices in animal welfare standards of care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Leadership:
• Oversee day-to-day operations and actively manage personnel in all departments to proactively troubleshoot and remediate issues of process, policy, procedure and protocol.
• Motivate, lead and inspire the shelter team, educating and supporting team members to foster retention, and to recruit and attract new team members as necessary. Create and implement accountability measures, work plans and performance metrics for each position.
• Foster collaboration amongst team members to ensure consistent services and exceptional visitor experience is provided organization wide.
• Demonstrate a commitment to teambuilding through modeling a positive and respectful attitude toward all employees, volunteers and clients.
• Help to grow a culture that values critical and strategic thinking, problem solving resourcefulness, constructive feedback, engagement and inclusion.
• Direct overall customer service initiatives, including regular review and follow up of specific customer/stakeholder problems and requests.
• Manage difficult situations and resolve problems of a unique or sensitive nature. Respond promptly to community concerns and complaints.
• Proactively drive adoptions and clinic services: strategize, develop, and implement initiatives to streamline operations, improve customer service and enhance programs, to meet current goals and the achievement of future goals.
• Actively promote the organization and adoptions through participation in events, social media, and networking.
• Working with Executive Director and Board of Directors, provide leadership in developing programs, operation and financial plans, as well as implementing organization policies and procedures.
• Oversee the management and reporting of animal-related statistics.
• In partnership with Executive Director, medical team and animal care team, ensure the highest quality care, consistency, and husbandry of animals in accordance with Humane Society policies and procedures, current and best animal welfare practices, in compliance with state law and ASV Standards of Care
• Oversee facility maintenance and implement safety protocols to ensure that organization is in compliance with federal, state and local regulations and government agencies to sustain a safe environment for animals and people.
• Oversee proactive and reactive maintenance of the building, fixtures, furnishings, grounds, systems and structures.
• Commitment to professional development by participating in educational opportunities and conferences, maintaining networks, and engagement with professional organizations.
