Position SummaryThe Marketing & Communications Manager serves as a key leader within the department, ensuring the successful execution of marketing and communications strategies that align with Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA’s mission and goals. This role focuses on structure, policies, and procedures to maintain brand standards and oversee editorial responsibilities. Acting as a trusted collaborator and liaison, the Marketing & Communications Manager balances strategic planning with tactical execution to deliver cohesive and effective messaging across all platforms.
This position requires exceptional organizational, communication, and analytical skills, as well as a deep understanding of branding, public relations, and marketing best practices.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Execution:
Collaborate with program leaders to develop annual and project-specific marketing and communications plans.
Facilitate the execution, tracking, and evaluation of all marketing, communications, and public relations activities to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
Monitor marketing timelines and budgets to ensure efficient and timely implementation of strategies.
Media & Public Relations:
Serve as the primary point of contact for local media, handling media requests, tracking coverage, and reporting results to senior leadership.
Prepare high-quality press releases, talking points, and media kits to support outreach initiatives.
Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets and partners to enhance the organization’s visibility.
Brand & Editorial Oversight:
Maintain and enforceCASPCA’s brand standards, ensuring consistency across all print and digital materials.
Oversee the development of marketing collateral, including templates for brochures, flyers, signage, and other promotional materials.
Manage the organization’s website, ensuring content is up-to-date, user-friendly, and reflective of brand standards.
Internal & External Communications:
Oversee email marketing strategies, including drip campaigns, audience segmentation, and targeting.
Provide PR, marketing, and communications support to all internal departments to meet their specific needs.
Work closely with the development team to promote events and fundraisers effectively.
Data & Reporting:
Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, graphs, and charts to inform decision-making and measure the impact of campaigns.
Evaluate marketing and communications strategies using analytics tools such as Google Analytics and other promotional platforms.
Team Collaboration & Support:
Assist in managing media and social media production while providing guidance on best practices.
Support the Digital Content Manager and other team members in executing campaigns and initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the department’s objectives.
Additional Requirements:

Availability to work occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed for events or special projects.

What You’ll Need:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field preferred.
2–4 years of experience in communications management, preferably in a nonprofit, corporate, or fast-paced environment.
Skills & Knowledge:
Familiarity with WordPress, Google Analytics, and marketing tools/software.
Strong understanding of social media platforms and their role in marketing strategies.
Experience managing budgets, timelines, and multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred:
Experience with branding, editorial oversight, and public relations.
Knowledge of digital marketing and engagement platforms.
