We have an exciting opportunity at our Methuen Animal Care and Adoption Center for an Animal Welfare Specialist. The vision of the MSPCA Animal Protection Division is to proactively address the underlying issues that put animals at risk. We value our connections to communities and organizations, and serve as a resource to protect the largest number of animals possible. Animal Welfare Specialists (AWS) are at the forefront of this mission, working directly with people and their pets to effect positive change in our community. Some job responsibilities include:
Working hands-on with several species of animals, including companion, equine and farm animals, feeding, cleaning and disinfecting animal living spaces, providing enrichment activities, exercising, medication administration, etc.
Providing in-depth adoption counseling through thoughtful conversations with potential owners to ensure the best match and outcomes for both animal and owner
Providing judgement free, empathetic surrender counseling to owners, and discussing alternative paths to surrender whenever available
Working one on one to offer problem solving advice and connect people with affordable veterinary and behavior resources (e.g. low cost vaccinations, training classes, etc.)
APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:
We are looking for applicants with at least one year of experience in a customer service/client care position. Previous animal shelter experience is a plus! Applicants should also demonstrate excellent judgment and interpersonal skills and be eager to work to support the human-animal bond.
