Overview:

Orchestrate press & PR campaigns for ambitious pro-animal political initiatives across the country.

Build press lists and cultivate long-term relationships with local and national journalists.

Design visually compelling press opportunities to ensure that print and video journalists lead with the animals’ side of the story.

Work with our social media lead and digital strategy lead to test and refine messaging and deploy a range of communication assets from web pages to campaign ads.

Join at the ground floor as we build a nationwide political base organization–an NRA for animal rights.

Preference and pay incentive is given to candidates who will live in a region with a PAF chapter (Denver, CO | Portland, OR | Washington, DC.)

Salary $54,822-$60,840 per year depending on location (details) plus healthcare and retirement contributions worth >$6,000 per year.

Work at Pro-Animal Future is highly self-directed. Self-starters with a track record of initiating projects might succeed here. Expect a lot of learning on the job.

Press & Public Relations Lead:

Purpose: Build public and elite support for pro-animal policy initiatives through earned media.

Outcomes you’ll be assessed on:

During peak campaign seasons, press coverage of our ballot initiatives features our strongest messaging and visuals.

Outside peak campaign seasons, we are able to place favorable stories in influential local publications.

With local organizing directors, working to identify key local political players and bring them over to our side.

Activities:

Building and maintaining relationships with journalists, editors, and producers across local and national media outlets, ensuring Pro-Animal Future is their go-to source not just for stories about our campaigns, but for animal political stories in general.

Crafting compelling press releases, media advisories, and pitch letters that frame our initiatives in ways that resonate with different audiences and publications.

Designing and executing creative media events and photo opportunities that visually communicate the urgency of our campaigns.

Developing rapid response strategies to capitalize on breaking news and shift narratives in real-time.

Creating comprehensive PR playbooks for each campaign, including key messages, talking points, and crisis communication protocols.

Training local campaign directors and volunteers in speaking to journalists using our talking points.

Communicating on behalf of the organization through blogs and emails to supporters with the goal of fundraising and mobilizing volunteers.

Crafting persuasive website copy to communicate with activists and the public.

Key Skills

Write persuasive, newsworthy copy that gets journalists' attention and drives coverage.

Think visually and strategically about how stories will appear in print, broadcast, and digital media.

Build authentic relationships with media professionals and maintain those connections over time.

Speak in a clear, professional, and inspiring way about our campaigns during media interviews.

Adapt messaging and framing for diverse audiences—from progressive activists to moderate voters to conservative-leaning communities.

Work under tight deadlines and manage multiple campaigns simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.

Measure and analyze media coverage to continuously refine PR strategies.
